That's What My Girl Beyonce Says...

I feel like blogging, because it's been a while, and why the heck not?

First things first, today is my favorite Californian's birthday! Happy birthday, J! I hope today is filled with unicorns, rainbows, glitter burritos, ninja mimosas, and that Ralph stays home. Happy to have you in my life and have you as a best friend and diary - ha. Love you long time.

Anyway, let's get on with this post...

Sunday was Father's Day, as you all know, and since I'm on the opposite side of the country to where my family lives, my Father's Day and Mother's Day 'hangouts' consist of me calling home and chatting with my parents for a little while. This past Sunday was no different. I called home and talked to mom like normal, then I had her pass the phone to dad so we could catch up... I'm going to give you a little play by play of how this conversation went.

This is dad, when I took him on a surprise helicopter ride for the first time in his life.

(Side note: for those of you who haven't read anything about my dad - he guest blogged for me a few times last year, and he has QUITE the personality)

Dad: Are you watching golf in my honor today?
Me: No, absolutely not. You think I sit around watching golf when I don't have to?
Dad: Well, no. But it's Father's Day.. today is different. You should be watching it today.
Me: Sorry dad, but no. You gave us the choice between golf and 'Star Trek' growing up... and Christian and I BOTH chose to watch Star Trek every single time. Don't you think that was for a reason?
Dad: Yeah, but I gave you choices between watching something awesome and watching something awesome. I'm a great dad.
My dad is so humble.
Me: Yeah dad, it was more like 'good' and 'awful'.
Next conversation -

*Discussing how expensive this city is to live in*

Me: That's part of the reason I can't wait to move in with Justin.
Dad: *pause* *crickets* you and Justin are moving in together?
Me: Calm down dad, not until next year...
Dad: Oh I'm calm. I've never been more calm. *dramatic pause* Well, when you move in together, he better put a ring on it.
Me: *laughs a lot* Umm what?
Dad: Well that's what my girl Beyoncé says...

annnnd then my mom joined in the conversation, in the background, at this point.. but I won't share those details because I don't need to freak Justin out anymore than he probably already is - haaa.

That's all I've got for today. I'll try and make this posting thing a regular thing in my life again, but y'all know how much I struggle.

It's always fun to spring that info on parents. Even after I got engaged my parents seem surprised that I was moving in before the wedding. Sorry, dad?

You took your dad on a surprise helicopter ride?! I'm with J, you win Best Daughter in the History of Daughters. Also, is it weird that I want to be BFFs with your dad?

Yep ... she's the best daughter in the history of daughters. Which is why I am a tad protective ... soooooo .... knowing that we'll be meeting Justin this summer (and looking forward to it I must add) I've already dusted off Faith's naked baby pictures to show him that she has all her parts so that he doesn't need to verify it for himself. I'm such a great Dad ... looking out for everyone's best interests. You're welcome Darl!

oh.... and I took pre-emptive steps to manage your Mom's reactions by letting her know that a couple of women commented here that they either "loved me" or wanted me to be their "BFF." I didn't want her blind-sided by my immense popularity. She busted my bubble and said they didn't really mean it ... it was just polite rhetoric from MUCH YOUNGER women. Harrumph ... not so sure that the truth always sets me free. Just sayin'. (Faith - when you get a chance, please remind me .... BFF is a good thing, right?)

Can I be best friends with Peter? Like sure Lindsay beat me to the request, but like oh well. I wanna be BFFs with Peter. Also, can you send me on a surprise helicopter ride?
